About Us
"Our mission is to preserve, advance and promote opportunities in vocational trades, and marketable skills for persons with disabilities, high school drop outs, individuals re-entering society after incarceration, displaced workers, unemployed persons and underemployed persons."
Founded in 2004, the Universal Center for Development (UCD) is a District of Columbia non-profit organization, established for metropolitan area adults ages 18 and over.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Center for Development, Steven Willis was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools. As a learning disabled student, Steven often faced learning challenges, poor grades and eventually--dropped out of school. These experiences helped him to realize learning is a lifelong process and the community must be involved in assisting young adults in meeting the ever-growing educational challenges. Steven is a gifted craftsman in carpentry, construction, kitchen and bath cabinetmaking. His vision through sharing his talents is to enable others to learn trades, skills and competencies necessary for successful career development.
We will provide a change-oriented environment developed in partnership with key area businesses, corporations and community organizations each with special expertise and training capabilities.
UCD Programs will include innovative approaches to hands on computer learning, use of animated graphics, multimedia communication as well as, specialized training in cabinet making for kitchen and bath. We will prepare each participant for entry level opportunities that will allow them to meet their full employment potential and become self sufficient. We will train tomorrow's workforce leaders!
